Stunning duet of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. One way to help make it through a cold, and trying winter.
And another equally stunning version here with Joni Mitchell.

This was a poster I had created from an old, very old pencil drawing on bristol board made back in the day, during the wonderful trauma of those long lost High School years. The original image was taken, I believe but cannot confirm, by photographer Gered Mankowitz in 1967.
From a digital photo taken of the black & white image of the hand-drawn poster, I then colourized the image, adding the appropriate textures, grooviness and whatnot.

Sad news today. Another artist, talented, troubled, joins the accurséd 27Club.
Amy Winehouse, you’ll be missed, peace.

Way back in early 1990 something or other, I had the great privilege to work, in tandem with Kenn Waplington from Waplington, Forty, McGall, on the re-design of the Hockey Hall of Fame identity.
Originally the logomark had used a flame and torch. In no uncertain terms our creative brief mentioned NOT using flames; torches; hockey players (which would discriminate against goalies) or goalies (vica versa); hockey sticks (which would discriminate against goalie hockey sticks) missing teeth, etc.
Working through as many explorations with what was left, the majority of the work was subsequently rejected and then the idea of using the Stanley Cup came up, the Holy Grail of Hockey. It was pointed out naturally, that the cup, though the esteemed prize it is (and frankly the most aesthetically pleasing looking sports trophy in the world, bar none!) was not all there was to Hockey.
The above chosen solution was later finalized with an utterly superb scratchboard illustration of the Cup created by Damian Glass.

Some time later, I found myself outside the Hall of Fame itself, gasping at the (unbeknownst to me) final FINAL logo, a mishmash of our earlier ideas, yet incorporating elements that were ruled out from the beginning – round and round it goes. I never did bother to find out who had created it, though I can understand their probable frustrations.

And since no one has asked me, here’s my solution to the current dilemmas of the present logo, resolved below. Just think of all the new merchandizing …

Portrait of Who guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire Pete Townshend.
A beautiful, revealing masterpiece, heartfelt and meaningfully sung by bandmate and founder Roger. From another of the bands’ umpteenth! collection of hits.
Thanks to the maestro for all the great work.

God and the Devil recently held a press conference to announce that the Whole Thing had been a hoax. In fact before the “Game”, as they described it, they had decided to switch roles.
Asked the purpose of it all, they simply replied, “We were just f**kin’ with you.”
Asked the course humanity should now take, both answered, “Move along…”

You and me, that’s duality.

One of the unspoken, underlying reasons for gregstevenson.com has, sadly, failed to materialize – nay, it has in fact smashed itself to pieces on a parietis of silentium – three words, five syllables. Sometimes we just fly too close to the sun.

Study after William Rimmer’s Evening also called The Fall of Day (1869). That image was later re-adopted by a famous English musical group for their company logo. Oh, the suburban kitsch of it all.

Proprius gratiae to Shelley for keeping the faith; to Kevin L. who kept his patience and sanity, when I clearly lost mine; to Gord for his flash wizardary and long suffering friendship; to Elliot, who literally gave me the coat off his back; and to Declan for his wise suggestion.
